Job description

Role & Company / Project Overview: CarbonZero is hiring a Chief Science Officer (Head of Science) as part of our founding team. CarbonZero builds digital MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) infrastructure for nature-based carbon projects in Bangladesh, integrating ground data and satellite data into a unified evidence stack where every carbon metric traces back to verifiable scientific evidence. This founding leadership role owns the entire scientific core behind that promise. Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties: • Own methodologies and carbon accounting framework design • Design field protocols and sampling strategies for nature-based carbon projects • Lead remote sensing analysis, GIS, and biomass modelling • Oversee uncertainty calculations, quality assurance, and quality control (QA/QC) • Ensure readiness and compliance for third-party verification with VVBs, Verra, and Gold Standard • Conduct regular field work across nature-based project areas (forest and mangrove carbon) • Collaborate directly with the founder and engineering team to integrate scientific models into the platform Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience: • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Forestry, Remote Sensing, Ecology, or a related field (PhD is welcome but not required) • Final-semester students are welcome to apply • Prior exposure to carbon or biomass measurement, GIS and remote sensing, or MRV through employment, academic thesis, or research projects • Proficiency in Python or R programming • Demonstrated ability to critically analyze and interpret carbon methodologies • Professional fluency in Bangla and English Working Hours, Shifts & Location Details: • Location: Dhaka / Chittagong, Bangladesh, with regular field work in project areas Compensation & Benefits: • Competitive pay with equity ownership in the founding team • Ownership of the scientific core of a new digital carbon platform • Hands-on field projects and direct access to publication opportunities Application Instructions: • Submit your CV via email to apply.
