Job description
Role & Company / Project Overview: We are seeking a highly experienced PL/I Mainframe Technical Lead / Consultant to provide hands-on technical leadership for a complex enterprise transformation program. This is not a routine production support or maintenance role; we need someone who can work hands-on with complex PL/I code, lead technical design, troubleshoot challenging issues, and provide technical assurance to an experienced development team. Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties: • Provide hands-on technical leadership, complex application design, and technical analysis • Conduct hands-on PL/I development and thorough code reviews • Perform troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning • Handle online, batch, and integration processing tasks • Oversee and work with large, complex legacy enterprise applications • Provide technical leadership, knowledge transfer, and guidance to the development team • Lead and support migration, remediation, or legacy modernization initiatives Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience: • Extensive hands-on experience in PL/I / PL1 development • Substantial experience with Mainframe applications, IBM Mainframe, and z/OS • Deep technical expertise in VSAM • Strong practical experience with IBM MQ / WebSphere MQ / MQSeries • Proven background in complex application design, technical analysis, and troubleshooting • Experience with online, batch, and integration processing environments • Prior technical leadership experience in migration, remediation, or modernization initiatives • Desirable / Preferred: Experience with Db2, CICS, JCL / Batch processing, banking/insurance/financial services industry experience, high-volume transaction processing, and legacy application/database modernisation Working Hours, Shifts & Location Details: • Location: Australia (also open to New Zealand opportunities) • Work arrangement: Professional consulting/transformation program Application Instructions: • Interested senior PL/I specialists and Mainframe Technical Leads should apply by sharing their profile via direct message or email.
