Job description
Role & Company / Project Overview: Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited is seeking a Synthetic Organic Chemist to join the Small Molecule Drug Discovery team in Vadodara, India. The primary focus of this position is the synthesis and development of small molecules across drug discovery programs. Prior hands-on experience in peptide or macrocyclic peptide chemistry is required (this is not a dedicated peptide synthesis position). The role offers an opportunity to advance innovative discovery programs in India and collaborate with global scientific partners, including those in the U.S. biotech ecosystem. Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties: • Independently execute multistep organic synthesis to prepare small molecule compounds, from milligram to gram scale, in alignment with project priorities and timelines. • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot synthetic routes and reaction conditions to improve yield, purity, reproducibility, and scalability. • Apply knowledge of coupling reactions, protecting-group strategies, and functional-group transformations to diverse synthetic challenges. • Perform reaction work-up, compound isolation, and purification using appropriate techniques, including column chromatography and preparative HPLC. • Interpret LC-MS, analytical HPLC, and NMR data to establish compound identity, assess purity, and guide subsequent experiments. • Apply peptide or macrocyclic peptide chemistry experience to route planning, problem-solving, and support discovery programs. • Manage multiple experiments while maintaining accuracy, productivity, and detailed electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) records. • Prepare clear scientific reports and presentations and contribute actively to project discussions. • Maintain high standards of laboratory safety, including safe handling of air- and moisture-sensitive reagents where required. Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience: • Bachelor's or Master's degree with specialization in Organic Chemistry preferred. • 3 to 6 years of relevant industry experience in synthetic organic chemistry. • Prior hands-on experience in peptide or macrocyclic peptide synthesis is required. • Strong understanding of purification, characterization, and analytical techniques (HPLC, LC-MS, NMR, chromatography). Working Hours, Shifts & Location Details: • Location: Vadodara, Gujarat, India. • Work Mode: On-site, Full-time. Compensation & Benefits: • Title and compensation are commensurate with experience. Application Instructions: • Interested candidates can apply or refer candidates by submitting an updated CV to the designated email address.
