Role & Company / Project Overview: Valor PayTech is hiring a passionate and hands-on Database Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join the engineering team in Chennai. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex production database challenges and building highly available, reliable systems. Beyond routine DBA activities, the role requires identifying performance bottlenecks, troubleshooting replication and production incidents, automating operational workflows, and driving continuous improvements in database availability and reliability. Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties: • Manage MySQL / MariaDB database administration, maintenance, routine operations, backup, and recovery. • Configure, manage, and monitor database replication, high availability (HA), and clustering solutions. • Conduct query optimization, database indexing, and comprehensive performance tuning. • Collaborate closely with application engineering teams to perform thorough SQL and query reviews. • Handle troubleshooting, root cause analysis (RCA), and rapid resolution of production database incidents. • Automate operational and maintenance tasks using scripting. • Maintain database monitoring systems and ensure system reliability and uptime. Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience: • 4+ years of relevant database engineering and DBA experience. • Strong hands-on experience with MySQL and MariaDB database administration, maintenance, backup, and recovery. • In-depth knowledge of database replication, High Availability (HA), and clustering architectures. • Proven experience in query optimization, indexing strategies, and database performance tuning. • Good understanding of Linux system administration and operating system troubleshooting. • Hands-on experience with Shell scripting and Python scripting for operational automation. • Practical experience working with AWS RDS and Aurora. • Strong knowledge of ProxySQL and enterprise database monitoring tools. • Prior exposure to Galera Cluster, Percona / PMM, and Grafana is a plus. • Exceptional troubleshooting, RCA, and production incident-handling skills.
